Balancing Act

Keeping your balance and losing your balance are a big part of growing up.  Understanding how balance plays a role in science, engineering, cultural traditions, and art is fundamental to learning.  The Balancing Act exhibit weaves a tapestry of multicultural and science-based activities for children to experience different aspects of balance firsthand, including constructing a mobile from fanciful shapes, levers and

counterweights; walking a tightrope; playing stacking games with featherweight blocks; operating a teeter-totter for plush toys; building a balance and motion machine of runways and ramps; and creating artwork based on ideas of harmony, scale, and aesthetic balance.

Balancing Act was developed and produced by the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History, in partnership with the Youth Museum Exhibit Collaborative.
